The AMA Guides® provides a reference framework within which physicians may evaluate and report medical impairments and within which others may understand and make appropriate use of the medical information they receive in evaluation reports.

Uses

In 1956 the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association (AMA) created an ad hoc committee on Medical Rating of Physical Impairment to establish a series of practical guidelines of the rating of physical impairment of the various organ systems.

Since then, the AMA Guides provides a reference framework within which physicians may evaluate and report medical impairments and within which others may understand and make appropriate use of the medical information they receive in evaluation reports.

Guides Third Edition was first published in March of 1984, this particular edition is the revised version and published for the first time in 1989.
